SPRING LEAGUES WILL NOT BE SEPARATED INTO GOLD & SILVER DIVISIONS
NEW DIVISIONS/PRE-SEASON EVALUATIONS: This Fall (2011), in order to better serve our players at their appropriate skill and experience level we will be conducting a pre-season evaluation for all players. This will take place on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 4-6pm at Mt. Nittany Middle School for all kids registered in the 4th-8th grade leagues. From this evaluation we will form two divisions the Gold and Silver. Both groups may range in age from 4th-8th grade and may be further subdivided.
Gold Division: Players with more experience and advanced skills will be placed in the Gold Division. These will generally be players who have played several years of IPV or equivalent, travel team players and/or middle school players. To be placed in the Gold Division players must demonstrate a solid base of the fundamental skills of forearm passing, setting, hitting with an approach and overhand serving as well as an understanding of general game strategy. We will continue a strong emphasis on skill development and refinement with a focus on more advanced ball control, digging and attacking.
Silver Division: Players who are still developing their base of skills as well as those who are younger, less experienced or possibly have not played before will be placed in this division. The primary emphasis will be on developing strong fundamental skills of forearm passing, setting, hitting with an approach and overhand serving. Players will also learn the basic strategies of game play such as pass, set, hit etc. Age appropriate net heights and lighter balls will be used for younger players.
